Welcome back, dice fondlers, for one last roll of the bones in our random Dungeon and Dragons adventure! As you set out to play, randomly or not, keep Rule 0 in mind; if a rule makes the game no fun, it’s a rule your table can do without. Respect the people gaming with you, no matter how long or how little you’ve known them. Everybody should make clear their expectations before beginning play. You’ll never have a gameplay out worse than when you have a table full of players with completely different ideas as to what “fun” looks like. Is the game serious? Is it humorous? Did everybody else show up for a beer-and-pretzels one-shot while the DM came thinking that they’re rewriting the Poetic Eddas of Norse mythology?
To that end, don’t just limit yourself to Dungeons and Dragons either. While DnD may be what you can find on any bookstore shelf, investigate further. Just a little digging will find you games about pro wrestling, space operas, evil bureaucracies, paranormal ghost businesses, and much more. If you can imagine it, it’s probably out there. And if it isn’t? Make it! You never know what type of game someone else might want to play, and one of the best things you can do is shine a little light in someone else’s life.
So, for this adventure, we’ve covered ways to keep the players’ experience random, ways to help build a plot out of disparate bits and pieces, and we’ve even touched on good gaming etiquette.
