Remember your first fictional crush? Sometimes they are 2-D, other times they are in print, and sometimes you just feel like a character was meant for you. I would like to talk about my own personal list of Waifu, but first let’s go ahead and get those pesky “your waifu is trash” jokes out of the way. No worries, I can wait.
Okay, are we good now? Good. Let’s get this list started.
#5. Ryoko Hakubi (Tenchi Muyo Series)
My very first anime girl crush goes back to the late ’90s/early ’00s, when Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki came on Toonami and when I fell in love with the Harem genre. With that blue hair and horrible attitude problem, I couldn’t help but just give her all of my attention. I always enjoyed the way she would not only fight alongside Tenchi, but fight for his heart against her rival in love, Ayeka. Lucky for me, Ryoko has spanned across the Tenchi Muyo series, even going as far as saving Tenchi in Tokyo in my eyes. I mean, come on guys! She has been said to be 5000 years old, but she is still looking pretty darn good.
#4. Kazehana A.K.A. Sekirei #3 (Sekirei)
Now, I love a woman that can handle a drink, and Kazahana has proven throughout the series that she can down her sake with the best of them. Known for being able to control the wind, her relaxed mood, and her, well, abundant physique, she becomes one of many well-known Sekirei in this harem. She shows her loyalty to very few people, which is something well worth keeping in any waifu list. The series isn’t very long; Sekirei spans for only 2 seasons, so if you haven’t seen this yet, pick up a copy and enjoy the, uh, scenery.
#3. Nico Robin (One Piece)
Brains, beauty, and one hell of a Devil Fruit power sums up Nico Robin and earns her a spot on my list. Robin uses her intelligence throughout the series to find buried history, which is a big no-no in this series – so yeah, she has bad girl status. Robin isn’t afraid to use people to reach the goals that she has in mind, at different points manipulating a band of pirates and disguising herself as a Marine. Once she is part of the Straw Hats, she is a wonderful shipmate. She doesn’t always show too much emotion to many people but when she does, it shows how caring Robin is – and everyone wants a caring waifu.
#2. Satellizer El Bridgette (Freezing)
WHOA BABY!!!! Excuse me. Those of you who love fan service and haven’t seen Freezing might want to give this one a try. Satellizer is quite the mega babe, and not only can she cut an opponent down with that blade, she has quite a sharp tongue as well. Referred to as the “Untouchable Queen”, she is known to be quite distant with other members of the school and especially to men. While cold and calculating, she has a soft and sensitive side and also loves fast food, which is totes awesome. Oh, and she doesn’t look too bad in a pair of glasses; just take a look for yourselves!
#1. Lum Invader (Urusei Yatsura)
Often considered the original waifu, Lum tops my list and I can’t help but gush over how awesome she is. Always stylish – whether it be the usual tiger-striped bikini or some of Rumiko’s alternative artwork, she always looks her best. Although she has quite the temper and can electrocute anyone into oblivion, she does stick with her guy, even if he is chasing after other women and Lum’s friends. Though the series came out in 1978, she still looks amazing to this day, and is still very popular over in Japan. And she isn’t just beautiful; she can cook, and the way to my heart is spicy foods, which happen to be her specialty! There is a reason Lum has stayed at my number one spot since I became a Urusei Yatsura fan, and she will most likely stay there for quite a long time.
Well, that is my list of waifu! Do you have your own list, or maybe just your true one and only? Let us know in the comments below and as always, thanks for reading!
