MTG Card of the Day: Geth, Lord of the Vault

One of my personal favorite cards, Geth, Lord of the Vault is a 6 mana cost 5/5  black Legendary Zombie Creature. He is found in the Scars of Mirrodin set and his effect allows you to tap X mana plus one Swamp to bring an artifact or creature with mana cost equal to X from an opponent’s graveyard to the battlefield under your control tapped. Then that opponent has to remove the top X cards from their deck and put them in the graveyard. Oh yeah, he also has Intimidate.

Geth is great on a couple of levels, but where I find him most useful is in a blue/black mill deck. Use the blue to make your opponent discard and use Geth’s effect to search for high power creatures in their discard to, in turn, mill them some more. With enough mana, Geth can be played pretty quick, and Intimidate means he can only be blocked by artifact or black creatures.

Though building specifically around him can be difficult, he can still be a powerhouse in mill decks. With cards like Traumatize, Archive Trap, and Psychic Drain, Geth’s effect can be taken full advantage of leaving your opponent with no deck to work with!
