MTG Card of the Day: Omnath, Locus of Rage

Omnath, Locus of Rage

The new Omnath comes to us from the recently released Battle for Zendikar set. You may remember Omnath, Locus of Mana from Worldwake. It seems someone cut down a few too many trees in his forest and now he is pissed.

Omnath, Locus of Rage is a mythic rare, 7 cost, red/green Legendary Elemental Creature. He has a landfall effect that allows you to put a 5/5 red/green Elemental creature token on to the battlefield. In addition, whenever Omnath or an elemental dies, Omnath deals three damage to a target creature or player.

The best use for this new powerhouse is EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander), better known as Commander. The restriction of using singles hardly dampers his effect, as there have been a ton of red and green Elementals through the years. With cards like Explore, Rites of Flourishing, Exploration, and Azusa Lost but Seeking you can develop a ton of land play every turn. Add in some land fetch and red cards that do damage on land sacrifice, such as Shard Volley, and you will have a potent deck sure to thwart your foes in no time!
