Ravnica: City of Guilds, Rare. Today’s MTG Card of the Day is more of a personal choice because Mindmoil has been a pet card of mine since its first printing and I feel the need to spread the good word. Where most of my play group at the time poo-pooed it because you couldn’t plan anything, I saw the true possibilities Mindmoil presented (MUWAHAHAHA). If you had Mindmoil and enough cheap spells that drew you cards to replace them, you could cycle through your entire deck looking for whatever you needed in no time flat. My personal favorite things to use in conjunction with this sort of strategy are Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Psychosis Crawler.
Just look at the art for this gloriously underplayed card. Alex Horley-Orlandelli did a spectacular job of capturing the flavor of what the card does. You have a thought, act on it, and then a nigh-uncontrollable surge of information rushes into your mind! The flavor text really brings home that same idea with a member of Ravnica’s Azorius Senate looking down on the Izzet League (the misguided fool! Long live the Firemind!).
