Recently, rumors of a new entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom series have been gaining strength, with sources telling Polygon that the game will launch next year, after being announced officially at The PlayStation Experience 2016.
Neither Marvel or Capcom have commented on the development of a Marvel vs. Capcom 4, and the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 producer flat-out denied the production of a new game:

The last entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom series was Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in 2011, featuring 48 characters – several of which might pose a problem for new editions of the game. With Marvel’s focus on the cinematic universe, and with three different studios holding the rights to various characters, certain heroes might not not make an appearance this time around. Fan favorites such as Magneto, Wolverine, and Deadpool might be left out due to licensing issues.
The Marvel vs. Capcom series is still a popular series among fighting game fans, pulling almost 800 participants in this year’s EVO and beating more recent fighting games such as Tekken 7 and Mortal Kombat X.
Despite reports, it is important to keep in mind that these are just rumors and until an official announcement is released, everything reported should be taken with a grain of salt. That said, I’d love to see my boy Asura from Asura’s Wrath make it in, since the DLC for the game included a traditional Street Fighter stage against Ryu and Akuma.
If a new Marvel vs. Capcom is indeed in the works, which characters would you want to see included?
