Christmas is here early this year! Sony announced this week in an interview with Wired:
“We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation … We have nothing further to comment at this point in time.”
Well saddle me up and call me Rudolph! Gamers knew something was up when Star Wars: Battlefront on PlayStation 4 was announced in a bundle with PS2 games.
It’s true, Microsoft did get ahead of Sony on this one with X-box One’s announcement, but what JRPG fan wasn’t thrilled at this news? Some of the best series in the RPG genre, such as Final Fantasy and Persona, were PS2 releases.
While Sony stated they are working on emulation, it’s unclear whether repurchase of a digital copy in the Playstation store will be necessary, or if old disks will be reusable. I certainly hope I’ll get to use my 5 copies of Final Fantasy X-2 on my PS4 (don’t judge me), but only time will tell.
Sony may be coy with their sneaky marketing tactics, but stay with Dashing Nerds for future updates!
